One of the biggest pet peeves that women have is when a man tries to make them jealous. Men know that women are usually insecure, due to media, family and friends influencing them amongst other things, so they use this to their advantage to gain power and control over a woman or merely just push her buttons for laughs. Here are some of the main reasons guy try (and usually succeed) in making you jealous.
- He is testing you
He is basically trying to ascertain whether what category you fit into. Are you girlfriend material or just someone he would “have fun” with aka a booty call chick and then leave. In order to find out which category you fit into, he will try to make you jealous to see whether you will cry, throw a tantrum, complain, become insecure and angry (booty call chick box) or whether you are in control of your own emotions and will handle yourself gracefully (girlfriend box).
- He is insecure and he wants your attention
If you have been behaving aloof, cold or he is unsure about how you feel about him, he will try and make you jealous as a way to ascertain whether you like him enough to become possessive and jealous over him or just generally to see whether you care about him. This is not a green light to act jealous to give him some security. If he wants attention from you he needs to get it in a positive way, not in a negative way by trying to make you jealous.
- He’s bored and he wants to create a show.
He is bored and wants to cure it and by creating some drama and pushing your buttons, by making you jealous. Don’t be the audience to his one man show. Don’t fall into the trap and give him the satisfaction by behaving jealous.
- To show you what a catch he is
By trying to show you other women want and desire him, he is showing you what a catch he is, how lucky you are to be dating him and in awe you should be of him. Again don’t stroke his ego by behaving jealous.
- He is trying to make you insecure
Men know that women are usually insecure, they use this to their advantage to either punish a woman, to have some power and control over her and to gain the upper hand in the relationship. This is why its so important that you do not react at all when a man tries to make you jealous! You are handing him way too much power and control, which he absolutely will use to take advantage of you.
The key is, never behave jealous Do not reward him with attention when he is behaving in a negative way, you will only end up reinforcing the bad behaviour and he will do it more and more. If he wants your attention he needs to sweep you off your feet and charm you, when he does this he is rewarded by your attention and therefore learns that this is the way to behave in order to get your attention going forward.
